Today is craft day for Earth Week. We hope you will join us in some fun activities to learn more about reducing waste, and how we can reuse material to celebrate the Earth.
We all know the saying “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” and for the most part recycling efforts have greatly increased over the past decade. However, most plastic does not get recycled. Even if it goes into a recycling bin, most of our recyclables make it to a landfill. That’s why today we are going to focus on Reusing some items to make our crafts today.
A good way to celebrate Earth Day is by connecting with nature, and what better way to do that than by making bird feeders? Since we are focusing on reusing waste, here are a couple of ideas.
- Hummingbirds will be here soon! Make a hummingbird (or this one) feeder to hang out the window.
- Don’t forget the hummingbird food!
- Look here to find out what kinds of birds are frequenting your backyard
The original Earth Day had people taking to the streets and protesting with signs, but right now we have to stay at home. So how about making a sign for your window for Earth Day out of reused materials?
You can make lots of art out of reusing materials, so check out a few of these articles to see if you find any inspiration.
- Here are 34 craft ideas to check out.
- Here are a couple of crafts to do with the kids.
Maybe you don’t enjoy making things, but that doesn’t mean you can’t help others! Check out Scraps KC to donate any craft materials you aren’t using. Or find a way to donate to Phoenix Commotion, a building initiative in Texas that makes beautiful houses out of reusing materials!
The point is that we can make anything from a small bird feeder to an entire house by reusing items, so take a minute to think about how you can contribute this Earth Day.
Make sure you tag us in your photos of activities through the week! We would love to see how you celebrate!
