Team
On the Farm
Our farm team has a front row seat to the magical process of composting. They are responsible for turning the piles with our skid loader to ensure the compost is aerated properly, removing contamination daily, and closely monitoring the temperature until the compost is fully cured.
On the Route
6 days a week our fleet of pick-up trucks collect compost from residences, businesses and Swap Spots all over the Kansas City Metro! From cleaning bins at the curb to delivering finished compost to your doorstep, our drivers go above and beyond to ensure that our CCKC members receive exceptional service.
At Markets + Events
You might catch us at a farmers market or community pop-up signing up new members, answering questions, and educating the public on the composting process + how important it is to keep food waste out of the landfill! Come stop by the CCKC table and say hi next time you see us out and about!

Coco (she/they)
Coco has been with CCKC since early 2018, when we were just a small group of 40 caring composters. In their free time, Coco enjoys gardening, hiking, camping, bird watching, riding motorcycles, and generally being outdoors. Coco is always in pursuit of authenticity and growth. As a CCKC leader, Coco works to build a space of safety and places great importance on supporting each team member’s individual uniqueness. ♥
Reno (she/her)
Previously a farmer at Urbavore Urban Farm, Reno joined the CCKC team in 2022 and she manages our truck fleet, our compost site + facility and our Bin Swap Program! You’ll often see her driving around with our trailer collecting food waste from our Swap Spots & commercial clients! When she's not diverting food waste from the landfill, Reno is growing her own food on her small homestead complete with sheep, chickens, & guinea fowl!

Dan Heryer
Owner
Dan (he/him)
As the owner of CCKC and Urbavore Urban Farm, Dan has been promoting sustainable farming practices while satisfying the palates of Kansas Citians for over a decade! When he's not tending the fields, you can find him chasing a loose chicken, playing with his kids, or turning the compost pile! Dan's commitment to creating a direct connection between eaters and their food make him an integral part of KC's sustainable food movement. Thanks, Farmer Dan!
Jill
Jill started working for CCKC spring of 2023 coming from an array of conservation jobs including running the nature center at the Baker Wetlands in Lawrence, and helping save animals at Operation Wildlife. She believes opossums smell worse than compost and doesn't mind the change. Jill loves reading and talking books (if you see her out on her route, ask her about the book she's probably listening to), lying in her hammock at the lake, and spending time with her wild pup Mona, and her partner Jake.

Emily Asselmeir
Driver + Market Crew
Emily
Emily collects food scraps from around the metro, drives the skid loader at the farm, monitors our compost piles to ensure they are healthy +thriving and represents CCKC at markets + events! You might see Emily at a CCKC pop-up around town getting more Kansas Citians on board the compost train! On the side, she is a mixed media artist practicing photography + painting!
Carrie (she/her)
Carrie has worked with CCKC since 2019 and is passionate about community planning, conserving resources and educating the public about COMPOST. When she's not driving a route, teaching kids about compost, making event flyers, taking glamor shots of our bins or putting googly eyes on food scraps…she enjoys hanging out with her best friend Yuki the dog, gardening, being a volunteer bike mechanic at the 816 Bike Collective and keeping her goats out of trouble!

Fenris Winston
Fenris

Bre Davis
Driver + Bin Maintenance
Bre
Bre is an ardent dog lover and a true connoisseur of music! Her unwavering dedication to sustainability and environmental healing is present in everything she does for us at CCKC. If you talk to Bre at the market, be prepared to learn about the crucial significance of composting and the environmental consequences of NOT doing so! When she's not behind the wheel, representing CCKC at markets, or diligently power washing pungent compost bins…you'll often find her immersing herself in the great outdoors.

Titan
Custodian
Titan
Titan (known as Tittles on the farm) is always on the hunt for tasty vittles from the compost site. He’s incredibly sweet to humans and loves to be pet, although his little brother Kaiser is very jealous and will no doubt sabotage the pet session and put the attention on himself. We work hard to make sure Tittles knows how much he is appreciated. He’s salaried and gets a lot of time off.

Kaiser
Custodian
Kaiser
Kaiser is perhaps the silliest, most rambunctious employee we have. He turns his nose up at dog food, since your scraps are so much tastier!! He’s incredibly social, always ready for a head pat or belly rub, and always arrives each morning with a big toothy smile on his face. He's a very sweet boy, and constant entertainment for the crew.
