We know that life is uncertain during this ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. Our hearts go out to everyone who has been impacted, or will be impacted by this virus. During this time we feel that making community a priority is a must. 

As an essential business, we are still operating during this time. We want to give you the knowledge you need to feel safe using our services, and resources in our community you can use if you need and support to help others if you are able. 

HOW WE ARE KEEPING YOU SAFE: 

• We use a fresh pair of disposable gloves during every collection, as well as a sanitizer on our hands in the case of contact without gloves.
• Staff who show or report signs of illness will be asked to stay home.
• We are using a hospital grade disinfectant proven to kill COVID-19 for use on door handles, bin handles, lids, etc. 
• We will be laying the liner inside your bucket, rather than fully opening it. 

HOW YOU CAN HELP: 

• Tie your bag off! This helps drivers easily dump contents in their trucks with little exposure.
• Before bringing your bucket to the curb, take the extra step to sanitize the lid and handle.
• Since we have discontinued removing contaminants from buckets by hand, take extra care to properly dispose of non-compostable waste. If you suspect an item is not compostable, and do not have time to ask, please dispose of it in the trash instead.
• Try tying up multiple bags inside the provided liner for an extra clean bucket (like these BPI-certified compostable bags off Amazon!)
• Use a folded up paper bag or newspaper at the bottom of your bucket to prevent excess moisture.
  • Drain coffee grounds well before dumping them in to reduce mess

We will still be cleaning the inside of your bucket, but it will just be a quick wipe down for the safety of our drivers. This is a temporary change, but these are ways to keep your bucket extra sparkly + clean (while keeping you + our drivers safe!). 

HOW YOU CAN HELP OUR COMMUNITY:

• Refrain from hoarding as there is more than enough food to go around
• Let people who need it know there is still hand sanitizer here in KC on a pay-what-you-can basis from Rieger Whiskey. 
• Donate food, cleaning supplies, and money to the homeless shelters that are working overtime right now
• Foster a pet to help out local shelters
• Donate to a local food shelter, or one of the local community kitchens

  • Bloom Bakery, which is donating food right now
